Chong has two meanings in the Vietnamese language. The first is to stack and the second is husband. Hon Chong is located on a stretch of rocky mass of land, famous for the thousands of smooth rocks being stacked on one another. There are two clusters of such rocks in the area called Hon Chong. The first is further out in the ocean and the second is located near an islet called Sat Thon. The cluster in the ocean is most impressive since there are large boulders stacking on one another seemingly out-of-balance, yet remaining stable.

The Long Son Pagoda was originally built on the Mount Trai Thuy in 1886. At the beginning of the 20th century, a storm destroyed it. It was then rebuilt at the foot of Mount Trai. The pagoda had to be restored several times in the 20th century. The current Long Son Pagoda is dedicated to the Buddhist monks who died protesting against the US supported Diem regime.

Once a collection of small fishing villages, Nha Trang Bay is now a bustling tourist destination, famous for its 7km stretch of coastline, coral reefs and warm, turquoise water. The sun shines all year round here, and temperatures never stray far from 26oC, thanks to its sheltered position beneath the mountains. It's this winning combination of favourable climate and rare natural beauty that make Nha Trang a jewel on the South China Sea.
